Toasted Newburgh to open in January

Another restaurant is coming to Liberty Street and it might be your new favorite lunch spot. Toasted Newburgh is a new-American soup, sandwich and salad spot that prepares made-to-order delights. Sam Satanovsky is the chef and owner behind it all.

Newburgh resident Satanovsky hasn’t been a stranger to the culinary world. He graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a degree in culinary arts and from Pace University with a degree in hospitality management. From there, he’s worked at a number of different restaurants, with one of his most notable was his four years as captain of events at the NoMad Hotel in New York City where he catered.

However, when the pandemic hit, his job was cut short because of the lack of events being held and the shutdown. Despite seeing the effects the pandemic has had on the restaurant industry, he wasn’t ready to shy away from continuing his career path.

He moved to Newburgh, where his friends and family were located, and his friends in real estate had a building that would be perfect for a restaurant.

“All of the puzzle pieces came into place at the right time,” said Satanovsky. “We decided to do it now.”

Daniel Gilbert and Eli Vaknin, owners of Fidelity Real Estate Management who helped him find the space, have partnered with Satanovsky for the new restaurant.

While they are starting out with their lunch concept of soup, salad and sandwiches, it won’t stay that way for too long. Satanovsky hopes to expand to brunch and dinner offerings to become a full service restaurant by the spring and summer of 2021.

But for now, there is still plenty to look forward to.

“Our style food is going to be beautifully plated and fresh ingredients,” said Satanovsky. “It will be simple, yet very delicious – which is kind of our motto. We like to not have too many ingredients in our dishes to let the main ingredient speak for itself.”

Customers can look forward to delicious bites like the caprese sandwich with basil pesto, fresh mozzarella, sliced heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil and balsamic vinaigrette served on toasted ciabatta. Other menu items include the roasted beets and goat cheese salad, roasted butternut squash with brown butter sage soup and the shaved ribeye sandwich. The price range is between $9 and $15.

The unique space has called for some extra time in the construction process. The over 100-year old building was once a commercial space, but was turned into an apartment. Now, they are rebuilding the space to resemble the storefront that it originally was.

But, by the summer, they will take advantage of their backyard space and offer outdoor dining with live music and more.

With opening during another peak in the pandemic, they plan to focus on takeout and delivery for the time being.

The restaurant is located at 45 Liberty Street and they will be open between Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 to 9 p.m. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
