Newburgh’s Yan wins boys golf title
Newburgh Free Academy senior Mark Yan shot a 69 to win the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association boys’ golf championships on May 13 at West Point Golf Club.
Mark Yan shot a 34 on the first nine and a 35 on the second, while his younger brother, Josh Yan finished second by shooting a 37 and a 35 to finish with a 72.
They both clinched a berth in this week’s Section 9 championships.
Carter Babbage shot a 100 but did not make the sectional cut.

Newburgh flag football season ends
The Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks’ season came to an end on May 14 when they suffered a 34-19 loss to the No. 4 Middletown Middies at Faller Field in Middletown.
The Goldbacks entered the tournament as the fifth seed and finished the season with an 8-6-1 record.
