The Newburgh Free Academy boys’ relay teams ruled the weekend as the Goldbacks finished the first day with a win in the 3,200-meter relay on Friday and then won the 1,600-meter relay on Saturday on their way to a third-place finish at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association Championship meet at Warwick Valley High School.

The Goldbacks scored 76 points.

Monroe-Woodbury won the meet with 153 points. The girls’ team was 12th with 15 points and the Cornwall Dragons won the girls’ championship with 146 points.

The 3,200-meter boys’ relay team was trailing Monroe-Woodbury for the first two legs, but Jimmie Kimbrough and Kendy Georges kept the Goldbacks close enough for Devin Batelic to run his opponent down and Brady Danyluk to widen the gap, giving his team the victory in 7:59.29.

Danyluk and Georges teamed with David Pinnock and Anthony Barrett to win the 1,600-meter relay with a season-best 3:17.57.
