Marlboro sending 10 to state track finals

The Marlboro vaulters, jumpers, throwers and runners all had success on Thursday and Friday and are sending six individual athletes and one relay team to this week’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association track and field championship meet.

Juliana Juras swept the Division II throwing events, winning both the shot put and the discus with respective throws of 35-9.25 and 133-5 at Friday’s state qualifier at Faller Field in Middletown.

Jose Iraola-Ceely won the shot put with a throw of 47-11 and was second in the discus with a throw of 128-0 but met the qualification standard to compete at the state meet.

However, no one will compete in as many events as Drew Heimink, as he will attend the state meet in four events.

He won both the triple and long jumps with respective distances of 41-5.25 and 21-7.25. He didn’t compete in Thursday’s pole vault event at Monroe- Woodbury High School, but he had already met the standard.

Fellow pole vaulter Sean Robertson will join him at the state meet winning Thursday’s competition by clearing 12-6.

Colin Robertson finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.27 seconds but still qualified for the state meet. His second-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 22.95 seconds was also good enough to qualify for the state meet.

Heimink, Colin Robertson and Sean Robertson teamed with Daniel Maher to take second in the 400-meter relay and qualifying for the state meet.

They finished in 44.06 seconds.

The state meet begins Friday at Faller Field. No one from Highland qualified.
