On Thursday, Jan. 25, the Wallkill Town Board held a moment of silence for Irma R. Sattarelle, the former Town of Wallkill Town Clerk, at the Town Board meeting.

Sattarelle passed away at the age of 96 on Friday, Dec. 22. She leaves behind two daughters, Susan Thompson and Lisa Sattarelle, two granddaughters, Sarah Thompson and Katie Hopper, and many nieces and nephews.

Sattarelle was the Deputy Town Clerk from 1973 to 1977 and 1978 to 1995. She was the first treasurer of Orange/Sullivan Town Clerk’s Association, past secretary and long-time member of the Town of Wallkill Republican Club and the Town of Wallkill Seniors and Happy Seniors.

“I remember at the old Town Hall, that if you ever rode past there on 211, you could look over that guard rail and you could see her office and most nights that office was lit well beyond 9 o’clock and we really weren’t sure if it’s because she was like me and talked all day or she actually just loved being there,” said Louisa Ingrassia, the current Town of Wallkill Town Clerk.

According to her official obituary, “Irma loved people, her family and animals of all kinds. She was an avid reader and thought everyone should be kind and just be happy. She always joked about her initials IRS.”

“She was 96 when she passed, and she really was a true definition of a lady. She would always tell me two things, smile but get the work done,” said Ingrassia.

There was also a moment of silence held at the meeting for Pasquale Petrizzo, longtime Town of Wallkill businessman and resident, and Blaine Frank Lee Jr., retired Town of Wallkill DPW Highway Mechanic. Lee was an active volunteer firefighter with the Silver Lake Fire District serving several years as the Fire Company President and Fire Commissioner for the Silver Lake Fire District.
