Highland Scouts support Food Pantry

On Tuesday, November 16, the scouts of both Troop 70 and Pack 70 were busy collecting and counting food items as part of their annual “Scouting for Food” Program. Over 2,791 food items were collected. This annual event usually stock the food pantry with approximately 2 months of food to support families across southern Ulster County.

“The purpose of Scouting is to engage our youth in ways that connect and support community” says Scout Leader, Mike Bakatsias. “I am proud of our Scouts and everyone who supports our local Community action”. Providing food to those in need is something every child understands and an event like this teaches them how to get actively involved.

Highland Community action leader Jan Cross and her team were overwhelmed last Tuesday night as scout after scout came through the door leaving their bags of food. Both Troop and Pack are so thankful to Jan and her caring staff for the valuable service they provide our community. A special thank you to her staff who assisted in the collection on November 16, Joyce, Jim, Carolyn and Evelyn.
