Embedded Police Social Workers Initiative presented

City of Newburgh residents were introduced on Monday, November 28 to students of the Adelphi University School of Social Work, specifically within the Master of Social Work program, who will be placed and embedded within the The City of Newburgh Police Department to assist and address community related matters.

Police Commissioner José Gomérez said the police department has partnered with Adelphi University and this program is the first of its kind for the city and looks forward to the work ahead with these individuals. The purpose of these individuals is to help the city police department in addressing residential issues such as housing, mental health and financial.

Several city council members expressed their support for this program and look forward to the future work conducted by the police department and these individuals in the weeks to come.
