Crawford House, Historical Society set to open 2024 season

Posted

The Crawford House, nestled at 189 Montgomery Street, is set to kick off its 2024 season with an open house extravaganza on Sunday, April 7, from 1 - 4 p.m.

One of the highlights of the day will be a concert featuring esteemed musicians Anastasia Solberg on viola and Marcia Gates on flute. Solberg, known for her dynamic performances and extensive musical career, will enchant audiences with her mastery of early nineteenth-century classical and romantic compositions. Gates, principal flutist with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, will lend her exceptional talent to create a harmonious duet that promises to resonate throughout the Crawford House’s parlors.

Solberg, a violist with a rich musical pedigree, has graced stages worldwide and founded several celebrated chamber ensembles. Gates brings her expertise as both a seasoned performer and educator to the forefront. Together, they will set the tone for a day of cultural enrichment and artistic exploration.

In addition to the musical festivities, the Crawford House will unveil its much-anticipated 2024 exhibit in the Stone Floor Gallery. Titled “From Farm to Ferry: The Newburgh Art of Charles Keller, 1951-1961,” the exhibit pays homage to the late artist and activist Charles Keller. A New York native, Keller’s profound political convictions served as the backdrop for his prolific career as a draughtsman, printmaker, and painter. His works, which capture the essence of mid-twentieth century Newburgh, offer a glimpse into the city’s rich history and cultural heritage.

As visitors peruse the exhibit and enjoy the musical performances, they will also have the opportunity to explore the Crawford House’s Gift Shop, which will feature a curated selection of spring-themed gifts and wares from local artisans and vendors.

The Open House event is free and open to the general public, inviting individuals of all ages to immerse themselves in a day of culture and artistic inspiration.
