City trying to ‘keep good workers’

Newburgh City Council approved on Monday, December 12 to amend the 2022 Personnel Analysis Book and the 2023 Personnel Analysis Book to delete one Account Clerk position and add one Senior Account Clerk position in the Department of Public Works [DPW] for the City of Newburgh.

DPW Superintendent George Garrison stated before the city council that this would be the third clerk the department has had within the year. The first clerk left for the water department and the second clerk left for the school district, both for increases in salaries. Other concerns Garrison shared were that department drivers are also leaving for positions outside the city for more money or not coming back.

“I’m just looking to upgrade the position to a Senior Account Clerk, that is well deserved,” said Garrison. “I’m just trying to keep good workers.”
