City Police recover handgun

On April 26,  at approximately 12:58 a.m., Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Washington St. and S. Johnston St. Upon arrival, officers observed a male standing in the area indicated by Shotspotter. Officers detained the male pending further investigation and found him to be in possession of a defaced, loaded Taurus .380 caliber handgun.

Roger Alleyne, a 33-year-old male, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree amongst other relevant charges.

At this time there are no known victims stemming from this incident. Police are looking for any witnesses who may been in the area at the time of this incident. Anyone with any information is asked to call the City of Newburgh Police Department at 845-569-7509. Callers can remain anonymous.
