Charles Wozniak appointed to Maybrook Village Board

Charles Wozniak may be a new Maybrook Village Trustee, but he is not new to public service in the village and the Town of Montgomery as well.

At Monday’s village board meeting, Mayor Dennis Leahy appointed Woznick to fill the seat of Deputy Mayor Robert Pritchard, who resigned last month. Woznick will fill Pritchard’s seat until the March 2023 village elections, when he must run to fill the remaining year of Pritchard’s term. Leahy’s appointment was unanimously accepted by the village board.

Pritchard also served as deputy mayor, so Leahy appointed a new deputy at the Monday meeting. It is Trustee James Barnett, whose term expires in March 2023. It is unclear if Barnett will run for another term. That appointment was also unanimously approved.

Both men were praised by Leahy and the rest of the board.

Charlie has been on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Planning Board and has attended many village board meetings,” Leahy said. “He’s familiar with the projects on hand and I feel he will be an asset to the village. It was a pretty easy choice.”

Woznick has also been active in the Maybrook Fire Dept., including as chief. He served many years in the Town of Montgomery Highway Dept., including as Highway Superintendent until his retirement.

As for his new Deputy Mayor, Leahy noted Barnett’s daily appearances at Village Hall and the many times he has filled in for Leahy at various events Leahy could not attend. Barnett has long been involved in Maybrook, including serving as police officer-in-charge and extensive involvement with Maybrook Scouting.

With Woznick now on the village board, that left a vacancy on the Planning Board. Leahy appointed, again with unanimous support, Noreen Reynolds. Reynolds is a former Village Board trustee and Deputy Mayor.
