Join the Plattekill Historical Society on Saturday, February 17 for our annual “Show and Tell” program! At this popular event we invite members of the community to bring an item of historical interest to discuss. 
 
Last year’s contributions included antique guns, blacksmithing tools, vintage toys and a presentation on artifacts located in Plattekill while metal detecting. What will 2024 bring? Stop in and find out! Show and Tell will begin at 1 PM at the Plattekill Historical Society/Plattekill Grange building at 127 Church Street.

Daughters of Sarah presents a 
Black History Month Celebration
Daughters of Sarah announces the upcoming Black History Month Celebration on Saturday, February 24, 5 - 8:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, 98 West Street, Marlboro
 
The event promises an evening filled with cultural performances, delicious Southern cuisine, and a sense of community.
 
The celebration will feature captivating performances by Voices of Unity from SUNY New Paltz, the dynamic PH.JC Praise Dancers, and the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club. These groups will showcase the rich history and vibrant spirit of the African American community.
 
The celebration will also feature a Southern Food meal, including fried chicken, BBQ chicken, collard greens, mac n cheese, salads, cornbread, desserts, and more.
 
Admission is $20 per person, $15 for SUNY New Paltz students $10 for children aged 5-12 and free for children aged 4 and under.

WVLT hosts rail trail walk
The Wallkill Valley Land Trust welcomes you to join a walk all about The Shape of Trees with Dr. William Schuster, Saturday February 24, 11a.m. - 12:30 p.m. 
 
The Shape of Trees will be an educational walk on the Rosendale Trestle area of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Participants will learn about identifying local trees in winter, when their architecture and other identifying features are more evident than after trees leaf out. 
 
The walk will especially examine tree shapes and discuss the interplay of factors including genetics, site conditions, and historical events that underlie why trees have the shapes that they do. The Rosendale Trestle provides an excellent opportunity to view tree architecture from within and above the forest canopy. 
 
This walk will be led by Dr. William (Bill) Schuster, a lifelong forest ecologist and author of many research publications on trees and forests. Bill recently moved to New Paltz after a 30-year tenure as Executive Director of Black Rock Forest in Cornwall and now serves on the Board of the Wallkill Valley Land Trust. 
 
Clover Classic 5K to benefit Highland youth baseball
The Town of Lloyd Events Committee, in collaboration with Highland Babe Ruth Baseball, announces the much-anticipated Clover Classic 5K Highland event. This community affair is set to take place on Saturday, March 16 and promises a day filled with fitness, camaraderie, and family-friendly fun.
 
Starting and concluding at the iconic Tony Williams Park, 113 S. Riverside Road, the Clover Classic 5K Highland offers participants a scenic route through the heart of Highland. Runners and walkers of all levels are invited to join this lively event.
The park will host an array of festivities, including food, music, games, and more.
Paid registration is $30 for participants aged 21 and over, $20 for those under 21.
 
 All proceeds from the event will directly benefit Highland Babe Ruth Baseball, supporting youth development in sports. Registration is now open, and interested individuals can secure their spot by visiting active.com/highland-ny.
 
Beyond the Stars 
supports Emily’s Dream
Prepare for an extraordinary evening with Deb Hanlon as we come together to support Emily Martin’s dream of attending the Aerospace summer program at John Hopkins University in Maryland. The National Student Leadership Conference has extended an invitation to Emily, and we need your help to make this opportunity a reality.
 
The event takes place on Friday, March 22 at the Plattekill Grange Upstairs Venue Theatre, 127 Church Street, Wallkill. (Please note that there is currently no elevator at the historic society, but efforts are under way for renovation within a year. For this event, there is one flight of stairs.)
Tickets are $60 per person, including beverages, charcuterie selections, salads, light snacks, and decadent desserts.

This fundraising event aims to raise $6,000 to offset the costs associated with the program. Emily will have the opportunity to explore NASA, design, build, and launch aircraft, learn the fundamentals of coding, meet scientists and engineers behind the scenes, and much more. Upon completion, she will receive a certificate of completion, three college credits, and a letter of recommendation from John Hopkins and the NSLC. Entire proceeds will support Emily’s Tuition to the John Hopkins Aerospace Program.
 
Attendees are not guaranteed a message from Deborah, but she will do her best to keep you entertained, informed, and intrigued.
 
Bingo event supports 
St. Augustine Roof Fund
Get ready for an evening of fun, excitement, and fabulous prizes at the Pamper Me Bingo event, all in support of St.
Augustine’s School Roof Fund. The event will take place on Friday, April 19, at St. Augustine’s School, located at 35 Phillips Avenue in Highland, starting at 6 p.m.
 
Doors open and check-in begin at 6 p.m.  Cost is $45 per person or $400 for a ten-person table. Pre registration is required. Participation is limited to 10 people.
 
The main event, featuring exciting rounds of Bingo, will take place from 7 to 9 PM.
 
Event highlights include door prizes, refreshments, raffles and a 50/50 drawing. Prizes include: handbags from from Coach, Michael Kors and Dooney & Bourke; gift cards for hair, nails, massage, a spa gift card, photo session and more.
