The Town of Marlborough continues to prepare for another busy summer season, with upcoming summer concerts expected to be announced soon. Residents and visitors can enjoy a wide variety of recreational amenities throughout town, including basketball courts, bocce courts, fishing, a Gaga Ball pit, walking trails, softball fields and pickleball courts. Fishing licenses are required for ages 16 and older, and children under 16 must be accompanied by a valid license holder. Dogs are welcome on the paved and unpaved trails around the pond but must remain leashed. Additional amenities include picnic tables, grills, playgrounds, restrooms and pavilion rentals. Facilities are open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. For pavilion availability and more information, contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 845-795-5100, ext. 4.
Town officials also extended thanks to Highway Superintendent John Alonge and the members of the Town of Marlborough Highway Department for their continued dedication and hard work. Officials noted that the strong working relationship between the Town Board and the Highway Department has allowed many improvements to be completed in-house, helping both to enhance town properties and save taxpayer dollars.
School News
Marlboro Central School District announced the Top 10 seniors of the Marlboro High School Class of 2026. Congratulations to Noah Ernst, valedictorian; Marlie Lanzoni, salutatorian; Emma LaPolla, Gianna Natale, Andrea Kuha, Pietro Loscerbo, Gael Vega, Gabriel Appler, Devin McLaughlin and Abigail DeBenedictus. School officials said they are proud of all the hard-working seniors in the graduating class.
The district’s annual Art Show, held May 19, celebrated student creativity and talent from across the district. The exhibit featured ceramics, pencil drawings, paintings and mixed media projects, highlighting the artistic abilities and hard work of student artists at every grade level.
Marlboro Elementary School fourth-grade students in Janessa Ciarimboli and Monica Taddeo’s classes recently enjoyed a hands-on science lesson as part of their Natural Resources unit. Students designed and built solar ovens, then used the sun’s energy to cook s’mores while learning about renewable resources, teamwork and problem-solving.
Library News
Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library will host the opening reception for its Summer Art Exhibit, “The Hudson River,” on Sunday, June 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit features works by local artists exploring interpretations of the Hudson River’s geography, history and cultural significance. Refreshments will be served.
Marlboro Free Library will continue its Walking Club on select Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with the next walk scheduled for June 3. Meeting locations will be announced one week prior to each session. Participants are encouraged to RSVP to receive weather-related updates.
The library will also host a Team Puzzle Competition on Sunday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marlborough Community Center. Teams of two to six adults will compete to complete identical 1,000-piece puzzles within three hours. Registration is required, and prizes will be awarded to the first three teams to finish.
Adult crafters are invited to the Marlborough Makers Club’s “Blueberry Tea Towel” workshop on Wednesday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Marlborough Community Center. Participants will hand stamp tea towels with blueberry-themed designs. Registration is required, and space is limited.
Weekly Recipe
Old Fashioned Goulash with ground beef — Camille G.
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef,
1 large onion - chopped,
3 cloves of garlic- minced,
1 cup elbow macaroni,
2 cups of beef broth,
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes,
1 tsp dried oregano,
1 tsp paprika,
add salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions:
Cook the macaroni according to package instructions and set aside. In a large pot, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
Once the beef is browned, add the chopped onion and cook until it’s translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Stir in the beef broth, crushed tomatoes, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let the goulash simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the cooked macaroni to the pot and stir to combine. Serve hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley or basil if desired. Enjoy your hearty Old-Fashioned Goulash!
