Trump selling Bibles is an insult to religion

Posted

In an act of unmitigated hypocrisy, during the past Holy Week, Donald Trump announced that he’s selling “Freedom Bibles”. Moreover, on his social media platform, he suggested that he’s being crucified rather than prosecuted for his significant criminal conduct. A supporter said that Trump has been sent by God to save us, an absurdity which Trump doesn’t deny.  Keep in mind that Trump is a serial adulterer, a pathological liar,a self absorbed criminal, and I could go on. All of this suggests that segments of the Christian Church are in deep theological peril.

When I was growing up, I attended Christian schools from kindergarten through high school, complete with Bible study, Sunday School and confirmation classes. The religion I learned, and came to believe, has zero similarity to the Trumpist cult-Christianity that has emerged in the last several years. He clawed out the Beatitudes, The Sermon on the Mount, and the Gospels, leaving Christianity based on idolatry in which he is the idol, and the antichrist. He is doing to Christianity what he did to the Republican Party-turning it into a personality cult to be exploited for his personal financial, and political benefit. It is disgraceful and dangerous and while most Christians are wise enough to reject his incursion into their religion,a substantial number of people have fallen for the false “prophet”. Why, you ask?

First, he creates fear through his lurid, terrifying speeches at his Nuremberg styled rallies. He tells his followers that Christianity is “under siege” and that Democrats are out to destroy Christian ways. Really? He tells them that “only he” can save them from this peril. This sounds terribly familiar as it resembles Germany of the 1930s. Wake up my fellow Christians! You are being used by a soulless, loveless, criminal who wants your votes, your money, and your adoration before he dumps you unceremoniously. Imagine the horror of a second Trump administration if he is able to weld a political party together with a religious movement. No one will question his misdeeds as he weaponizes the Justice Department to persecute those who dare disagree with him, for who can disagree with god”s agent? Suppose he unleashes nuclear weapons? Surely this is the action of a just god? He must be stopped and it is the duty of Christians to stand up to this charlatan.

On Easter, Christ rose from the grave offering us salvation. Trump wants your support, and he offers retribution and violence. Does that sound like a Christian? Absurd. Reject him now, and forever.
