Summer has arrived, and there are plenty of opportunities to stay active, learn something new and connect with neighbors throughout the community.
The Marlboro Free Library Walking Club will meet from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on select Wednesdays — July 1, July 15 and July 29. The July 1 walk will begin at Cluett Schantz Memorial Park in Milton, with participants meeting in the back gravel parking lot.

Enjoy the outdoors while getting some exercise and meeting fellow community members. Meeting locations for future walks will be announced one week before each session. To receive weather-related cancellation notices, please RSVP with the library.

NARTA Awards Scholarship
Congratulations to Marlboro Central High School graduate Matthew Bogaczyk, who has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Newburgh Area Retired Teachers’ Association (NARTA).

Matthew, the son of Jacob and Kristi Bogaczyk, will attend Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh to pursue a degree in physical education. Inspired by his parents, teachers and athletic experiences, he hopes to create a supportive and inclusive classroom where every child feels valued and encouraged.

Marlboro Elementary Celebrates Students
Kindergarten students at Marlboro Elementary School celebrated the completion of their first school year on June 18 during a special ceremony featuring the Pledge of Allegiance, the ABCs and the spirited “Go Dukes!” song.

The celebration concluded with a parade around the gymnasium as proud family members applauded the Class of 2039. Congratulations to all of this year’s Kindergarten Dukes!

Fifth-grade students also brought history to life during the school’s annual Bio Bash on June 18. Hallways became a living museum as students portrayed famous historical figures including Bob Ross, Princess Diana and Abraham Lincoln, sharing what they had learned through months of research.

Adult Tour at New Windsor Cantonment
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a visit to the New Windsor Cantonment Historic Site from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 9, at 374 Temple Hill Road, New Windsor.

Participants will experience Revolutionary War history through demonstrations of musket drills, blacksmithing and military medicine while learning about General George Washington and the Continental Army’s final winter encampment. Transportation is not provided. Registration is required for adults ages 18 and older. Register at the Marlboro Free Library.

Book Bedazzling
Give your favorite book some sparkle during Book Bedazzling from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, at the Marlborough Community Center.

Participants should bring their own book and decorate the cover with rhinestones, gems and other embellishments. Registration is required. This program is open to adults ages 18 and older.

St. Mary’s Church
The St. Mary’s parish office has relocated to the small house across from the parish hall.

During June, office hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The office will be closed July 2 and 3. July and August hours will be Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Father Hanley Council 7266 meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in the parish hall. Anyone interested in joining should contact Joe Lopiccolo at 917-657-8045.

Christ Episcopal Church
Senior Fellowship Suppers will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Route 9W and Old Post Road, on the following Sundays:

Marlboro Historical Society
The Marlboro Historical Society will host speaker Paul Ellis-Campbell at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Milton Train Station. The presentation will focus on the Revolutionary War and is open to the public.

Weekly Recipe

BERRY SALAD
INGREDIENTS
½ tablespoons butter
½ cup roasted, salted pistachios
2 to 3 tablespoons honey
6 to 8 cups baby arugula greens
kosher salt and pepper
1 cup sliced strawberries
1 cup blueberries
½ cup black berries
½ cup red raspberries
crumbled goat cheese, for topping
VINAIGRETTE
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 garlic clove,
1 tablespoon chopped chives
1 teaspoon honey
½ teaspoon mustard
kosher salt and pepper
½ cup olive oil
crumbled goat cheese
Instructions:
Make the pistachios first. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the pistachios and stir. Add honey and toss well. Cook the mixture until it’s simmering for 2 to 3 minutes. Pour the mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper and let it cool.
Toss the arugula with a pinch of salt and pepper. Add the berries and toss. Make the dressing. Take the pistachio clusters and coarsely chop them up. Sprinkle them all over the salad. Sprinkle on more goat cheese if you wish. Drizzle with the dressing and serve!
