Richard P. Lytle

Richard P. Lytle, of Marlboro, entered into rest on Monday, June 13, 2022. He was 85.

Son of the late Paul C. Lytle and Helen Mae Frederick, he was born on December 28, 1936 at Nason Hospital in Roaring Springs, PA.

“Dick” as he was known to friends and family was a graduate of Altoona Senior High School. After graduation he was an active member of the U.S. Army from September 1954 and was Honorably Discharged at Harrisburg, PA in September 1957, where he attended NIKE Guided Missile & Radar school in Fort Bliss, Texas from January thru July 1955; Served at Pittsburgh PA Missile site till September 1957. He achieved the rank of SP-2. He attending Penn State University (1957 to 1959) he then went on to work with IBM from 1959 thru 1991 as a Field Engineering Representative on IBM Large Computers at the Newburgh SAGE Site, and later at Boston, MA and Poughkeepsie, NY. He went on to Area Technical Specialist for the New York Area, a Marketing Support Rep at White Plains, NY and a Service Planning Specialist in Poughkeepsie, NY.

After retiring from IBM Dick became an Independent Consultant from 1991 to 2000, where he developed Resource Process Management Analysis techniques for several large companies in the U.S. (John Deere, 3M, The Gap, Fanny Mae, Bell Atlantic, Aetna, The Polk, etc.) He then joined St Luke’s Hospital staff from 2002 – 2010 in Newburgh, where he worked as a Security guard, Manager of patient transportation, Switchboard & TV & phone system operations.

In his free time, Dick loved scouting. In 1948, he joined scouting in Altoona, PA with Boy Scout Troop 16. He became a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow in 1953, and an Eagle Scout in 1954. He joined Boy Scout Troop 27 in the Town of Newburgh NY in 1976, and served as Scoutmaster Troop 27 (1978-1986), Committee Chairperson Troop 27 (1986-1990), Charter Rep for American Legion Post #1420 for Boy Scout Troop 27 (1990-2022), and Charter Rep for the Gardnertown UMC for Cub Pack & Boy Scout Troop 327 (2016-2021). He enjoyed scouting and seeing scouts become responsible adults in their community and nation. He participated in many canoing and camping trips, Eagle and service projects and just watching kids grow up.

In addition, he was an active member of the Gardnertown United Methodist Church in the Town of Newburgh. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren as they grew up, particularly, winter sleigh riding, canoing, swimming and camping, and loved visiting relatives in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

He is survived by his wife FayRae Lytle; children, John P. Lytle (wife, Lisa), Donna L. Palumbo, and Kenneth R. Lytle (wife, Anne); three grandchildren, Annachristina Palumbo, John R. Lytle (wife, Fran), David C. Lytle; two great grandchildren, Jackson Lytle, Alec Richard; nephews; and sister-in-law, Monsu Lytle in Fayetteville NC. He is predeceased by his brother Theodore R. Lytle.

Private cremation has taken place at Cedar Hill Crematory. Memorial visitation for family and friends will be Monday, June 20, 2022 from 4 to 6 p.m., with a Funeral Service to follow at 6 p.m. at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.
