Marlborough’s Halloween in the Park returns Oct. 24

Costumes, candy and creatively decorated cars will take over Cluett Schantz Park when the Town of Marlborough Recreation Committee hosts its annual Halloween in the Park Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The family-friendly community event will run from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Cluett Schantz Park in Milton, with organizers preparing for as many as 1,500 trick-or-treaters.

Residents, community groups and businesses are being invited to become part of the celebration by decorating vehicle trunks and distributing treats to children.

Trunk hosts can choose themes ranging from spooky to silly, and prizes will be awarded for creative displays. Businesses may participate but must have a decorated trunk. They will also be permitted to distribute promotional flyers to parents after handing out treats to children.

Those interested in hosting a trunk must register by Oct. 19 so organizers can assign spaces and prepare for the event. Participating vehicles should arrive between 2 and 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 for setup. Organizers are asking participants not to arrive before 2 p.m.

Once positioned, vehicles must remain in place until the event concludes at 5:30 p.m.

With a large turnout anticipated, trunk hosts should plan to have enough treats for approximately 1,500 children. All edible treats must be commercially produced, individually wrapped and sealed. Organizers are asking participants to avoid hard candy for safety reasons.

Non-candy giveaways are also encouraged, including glow sticks, pencils, stickers and small toys.

No electricity will be available for participating trunks, so decorations should be designed accordingly.

The event’s rain date is Sunday, Oct. 25.

Trunk registration is now open through SignUpGenius. Residents interested in participating can register through the Town of Marlborough Recreation Committee’s event signup page that can be found on the committee’s Facebook.

The Recreation Committee is encouraging residents to get creative and help turn Cluett Schantz Park into an afternoon of Halloween fun for families from throughout the community.
