Last week the Lloyd Democrats selected their candidates for the fall election.

Before the caucus got underway, caucus chairman Joe Avampato held a moment of silence for the late Rose Sinagra, who had been an integral part of the party committee for many years.

Stuart Weiss is the candidate for Town Supervisor, an attorney, long time resident of Highland and a supporter of the school district’s music Booster Club. Fellow candidate Joe Mazzetti nominated Weiss, saying that his legal background, “will guide us in contracts and move the town in the right direction, a better direction and will work for the people and not for the developers.” Candidate Mike Guerriero said Weiss, “has a lot of great potential and will be a great candidate in this election.”

Rich Klotz is the candidate for town Highway Superintendent. Mike Guerriero said Klotz has done a fine job taking care of the roadways in town.

Eugene Rizzo is the party’s candidate for Town Justice for another four-year term. He has served in the position for 38 years.

Rizzo said, “My heart has been and will always be as a Democrat serving everyone in this town, Republican, Conservative and Democrats. Thank you.”

Incumbents Joe Mazzetti and Mike Guerriero are the nominees for Town Council in November.

Mazzetti said, “Mike and I have really fought a hard fight, we’ve gotten beaten up, but through this whole thing we always vote for you, in the best interests of the town. Always by asking the tough questions will you get to the truth. Now we have a great fit with Stu leading as Supervisor and with Rich, Gene Mike and I and Bob, we have a great ticket upholding Democratic values.”

Democrat Bob Haskins is running for the Ulster County Legislature in District 9, seeking to unseat Herb Litts III.
