We in the 41st New York Senate district are fortunate to have a powerhouse representative who has a long record of concrete achievements that improve the lives of her constituents: Senator Michelle Hinchey.
Take just one crucial issue: housing. Her dogged efforts led to the establishment of a short-term rental registry that strengthens the efforts of New York communities to monitor and control how short-term rentals impact available housing and affect neighborhoods. She worked to expand and increase funding for the RESTORE Program, which has helped many seniors and neighbors on fixed incomes make affordable emergency home repairs that allow them to stay in their homes. Hinchey sponsored a bill, signed by the Governor, that allows communities to give a 25%-75% property tax break on homes sold by government entities, land banks, community land trusts, and nonprofit housing organizations like Habitat and RUPCO. She championed beautiful new truly affordable apartments for seniors in New Paltz and Highland.
In 2026 she has been a leader in gaining eight million dollars for an exciting pilot program, the Green Social Housing Project. It aims to provide public money to tackle the vexing issue of housing affordability. This project would set considerably lower maximum rental costs for eligible residents, emphasize sustainable construction, and involve tenants in buildings’ governance.
We need Senator Hinchey to continue her work with housing. We can make our choices now. Vote early (Oct. 24) and send mail ballots as soon as possible.
