Last week the Highland Administration and School Board honored their November students of the month, known as Leaders of the Pack.

Elementary School Principal Matthew Darling and Asst. Principal Tulani Samuel named fifth grader Mason Devall as the school’s Leader of the Pack for November.

Samuel said Devall was chosen, “because he is kind, respectful, responsible, an active participant in class, a hard worker and is always willing to help out. We are very proud to present him with this award for setting an example for other students. Congratulations.”

Middle School Asst. Principal Andrew Carnright named Scarlet Lovell as their November Leader of the Pack.

He shared a few words that Scarlet’s teachers wrote about her: “Scarlet is an amazing student, has a positive attitude and a great personality. She always has a friendly hello and is enthusiastic about class. She loves to share stories about her life and is genuinely interested about how teachers are and makes great personal connections.”

Carnright continued with additional accolades from teachers: “She is a great asset to every classroom. I am uplifted by her positivity and her willingness to face any challenge in class, including learning a new language. Scarlet is a great girl, a really hard worker and more importantly, a good friend. Congratulations.”

High School Principal William Zimmer and Asst. Principal Kevin Murphy named 10th grader Mary Tomlin as their November Leader of the Pack.

A number of teachers praised Tomlin: “Mary is a light that brightens up everyone’s day with her smile and kind words; Mary is a responsive and active listener and is always engaging with people and meeting them where they are; Mary is a special asset to our class and she exudes a sense of awe and is truly willing to learn and expand her horizons; She makes the class more fun with her natural enthusiasm and her keen sense of observation; She is a true leader and, wow, when she sings.”

It was noted that Mary was a “tremendous” standout during last year’s remote learning.

“She always participated and offered fantastic observations on the literature or the characters that we were reading at the time; She exemplifies the model of be the change you wish to see in the world; Mary always has a great positive attitude and gives everything her all, even if it’s new and always lifts other people up; Mary is a born leader with a positive attitude and is so polite and courteous and always greets you with a smile; She cares about her peers and always wants to help and I was so happy when she won her class presidency and so proud that she was chosen to be our Leader of the Pack. Congratulations.”
