Gardiner seeks input for climate vulnerability assessment

Posted

The Town of Gardiner is asking residents to complete a survey as part of a Climate Vulnerability Assessment being conducted in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Residents are asked to evaluate the importance and vulnerability of community assets, including emergency services, community services, critical infrastructure, farms and agriculture, the local economy, the environment, historic and cultural landmarks and private property.

A portion of the survey focuses on natural resources, including forests, soil, plant and animal habitat, native species, surface water, drinking water, air quality and food security. Residents can also describe how climate hazards have affected natural resources in the community.

According to Town Supervisor Michael Hartner, survey responses will be shared this fall during a workshop at which municipal officials will map the community’s top climate-related hazards.

Residents can complete the survey online through Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Questions about the assessment can be directed to Anna Harrod-McGrew at ash252@cornell.edu or 845-340-3990.
