Spring is in full swing across Marlboro, with plenty of community events to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Marlboro High School students enjoyed a Creative Day on March 27 during a half-day schedule, exploring activities ranging from candle making and improv to a New York State Police K-9 Unit demonstration. The day concluded with students gathering outside to watch a New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police helicopter take off, a fitting sendoff into spring break.

That same day marked Sparrows’ Nest Dress Down Day across the Marlboro Central School District. Staff and faculty showed strong support for Marlboro Sparrows’ Nest, a nonprofit organization that provides homemade meals to individuals and families facing a cancer diagnosis across five Hudson Valley counties, helping ease the burden of daily meal preparation during treatment.

Also on March 27, Marlboro High School junior and Art Club member Josephine Werba added her creative touch to the main office mural, continuing a growing tradition of student artwork that brightens the school and inspires creativity.

At Marlboro Elementary School, the Easter Bunny made an early visit on March 26. Kindergarten students enjoyed an outdoor egg hunt filled with sweet surprises, while several fourth-grade classes combined fun and learning by solving problems hidden inside eggs as they raced for prizes.

On April 4th we celebrated National School Librarian Day! Shoutout to our incredible Marlboro Central School District librarians—Maureen Stalter, Kathleen McGee, and Emily Soper Gabriel—for keeping the magic of reading alive every day. Thank you for all that you do!

This year, we have seen an exciting surge in student engagement with reading. At MMS, book circulation has more than doubled since the start of daily silent reading. It has been wonderful to see books constantly in students’ hands and to hear conversations sparked by what they are reading—many of the best recommendations come from their peers. The culture of reading is thriving!

Weekly Recipe: Josie’s Ricotta Cookies – Josephine Zunno
2 cups of sugar
1 cup of butter
1 container of ricotta cheese (15 oz)
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
4 cups of flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp of salt
1 ½ cup confectioner sugar
3 tbs milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl with mixer at low speed, beat sugar and butter until blended. Increase speed to high and beat until light and fluffy. At medium speed, beat in ricotta, vanilla, and eggs until combined. Reduce speed to low, add flour, baking powder, and salt, and beat until dough forms. Drop a level tablespoon of dough 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove cookies to a wire rack to cool. When cookies are cool, prepare the icing using confectioners’ sugar and milk. After icing, set the cookies aside for an hour or so to allow the icing to dry.

Residents are reminded that the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect from March 16 through May 14, prohibiting residential brush burning.
