Billions for a ballroom, bupkis for us

As the Supreme Court contemplates the legality of President Trump’s colossal glitzy ballroom, after he impulsively demolished the White House East Wing, families in Ulster County are hungry. While Americans nationwide are struggling with daily expenses, the ego-driven U.S. President is spending hard-earned taxpayer money -an estimated $300 million on a supersized building with luxurious drapery, gold-plated chairs, and chandeliers.

Display of wealth and self-glorification does not impress Americans who can no longer fill the gas tank, buy nutritious meals, or go to the doctor. Certainly, none of us will be invited to admire the ballroom’s glittering décor or dance on the marble floors.  And don’t expect an invitation to the “national security” bunker built below to protect Trump ‘s family and billionaire cronies when he starts a nuclear war. We elected a morally corrupt man pretending to save us from the rigged financial system that allowed our productivity gains to fill only the pockets of a very few, including his. As president, he’s taken the opportunity to wring every dollar out of the national treasury that advantages him and his friends. Let’s not be fooled again by Trump or his frightened and equally greedy GOP loyalists who ignore or endorse his thievery. Thankfully, it’s time to vote.
