The Dr. Margaret Wade-Lewis Center (MWL Center) is hosting a community Kwanzaa Celebration on Saturday December 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 90 Route 32 North, in New Paltz. Participants will eat, dance, drum, learn, and celebrate.

Kwanzaa is an annual secular holiday that celebrates African-American community, history and culture through seven inspiring principals: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith).

The Dr. Margaret Wade-Lewis Center at the historic Ann Oliver House preserves the Black experience in the Hudson Valley using the lens of free and enslaved lives in Ulster County, New York. The Center’s mission is to engage, empower, educate and heal the community through history and culture.
The event is free, with a suggested donation of $15 per family. Please register on the website at mwlcenter.org. For questions, please contact info@mwlcenter.org.
