Tree City USA for 19th year

The City of Newburgh has been named as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 19th straight year. The Tree City USA award honors the Newburgh City Council’s commitment to effective urban forest management.

The City of Newburgh achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: forming a tree board; creating a tree-care ordinance; enacting an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and celebrating with an Arbor Day observance.

“The City Council is proud to be recognized for the time, effort and funds we expend on maintaining and expanding our urban forest,” said Mayor Torrance Harvey. “Trees moderate our local climate, clean our air, improve mental health, and help conserve energy. The City Council is committed to remaining a Tree City USA for the twentieth straight year in 2025.”

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit conservation and education organization dedicated to inspiring people to plant, celebrate and nurture trees.
