Town Supervisor issues annual report

Hello New Windsor. Officials from the Town of New Windsor were invited to ShopRite of Vails Gate last week to bag groceries and to bring awareness to ShopRite’s Partners In Caring Program Help Bag Hunger.

ShopRite stores are committed to helping neighbors in need throughout the communities served by their stores.

In 1999 they developed the ShopRite Partners in Caring program, a community-based hunger fighting initiative that supports more than 2,200 charities. Since its founding ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated more than $48 million to soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, senior citizen centers, and other organizations that are on the front lines of fighting hunger. As Recreation Director for the Town of New Windsor I am honored to attend this event every year. ShopRite does so much for the Community of New Windsor and beyond that we were happy to come out to show our support for this program.

Thank you so much to Store Director Mark Capicotto and all his team for all they do for the community.

New Windsor Town Supervisor George Meyers recently released the State of the Town Report and despite the Covid-19 Pandemic the Town has continued to move forward and delivers services to its residents. Some of the bullet points from the report are as follows.

* The budget submitted for fiscal year 2021 remained under the New York State imposed tax cap
* An eighteen-month moratorium was implemented due to the over development in the town which gave time for the town to update their master plan to address these issues.
* All of the town’s parks have been renovated and a new dog park at San Giacomo Park was built and opened.
* The Catskill Aqueduct is back online.
* A fiver year repaving plan for the town roads has been developed with Highway Superintendent Anthony Fayo with year one of the plan being completed this summer.
* A new towing law was adopted which is regulated by the New Windsor Police Department.
* The Town led by Supervisor Meyers was able to avoid having to pay back $750,000 to the Federal Government because of a previous broken contract.
* The Town negotiated with the NYDEC to get a $3.6 million reimbursement for water purchased from the Aqueduct.
* The Town has begun updating and expanding the existing 45-year old sewer plant.
* All phone calls and emails to the Supervisor Office are returned on the same day that they are received thus making the government of New Windsor open and accessible.
