Town of Newburgh receives ‘excellent’ financial audit

The Town of Newburgh recently received an unqualified opinion (clean opinion) from the public accounting firm Nugent & Haeussler, PC, for the calendar year ending December 31, 2023.

The audit was conducted on a test basis and analyzed evidence to validate the amounts and disclosures of the town’s financial statements for the year. Among the significant points referenced in the financials include General Fund revenues amounting to $29.3 million and expenditures of $23.1 million.

Interest income, hotel tax, sales tax, and casino license fees were significant revenues that increased over the last year.

Total Governmental Funds on December 31, 2023, amounted to $57.4 million, an increase of $8.7million over 2022.

“This audit should give residents peace of mind that an outside firm has extensively reviewed our financials, internal control measures, and other related items and found that we are very solid in our financial position and that we conform to the highest standards. by an outside accounting firm,” said Supervisor Gil Piaquadio. “ I wish to thank my accounting staff for their hard work during the year and this audit.”
