Sister Estelle Kilpatrick, OP (Sister Maris Stella) of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died on Jan. 25, 2020 at Meadowview in Wartburg, Mount Vernon, NY. She was 99.

The daughter of the late Robert James and Estelle Gertrude Browne Kilpatrick, she was born May 30, 1920 in Newburgh, NY.
Sister Estelle entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, New York on September 8, 1938. Sister Estelle earned her BS in Elementary Education and her MA in Secondary Education from Catholic University. She earned her EDD in Curriculum from Columbia University in 1969.

Sister Estelle had a long and rich ministry in education at the elementary, high school and college level. She taught in Casa San Jose in Newburgh, St. Thomas School in Cornwall, Nativity School in the Bronx, Bishop Dunn Memorial School in Newburgh, Holy Rosary School in Hawthorne, Mt St Mary Academy School in Newburgh, Pope Pius XII Regional High School in Passaic NJ, and Mount Saint Mary College.

She is predeceased by her sister, Sister Margaret Kilpartrick who was also a Dominican Sister of Hope.

The celebration of Sister Estelle’s life will take place on Friday, January 31, 2020 in the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary in the Dominican Center at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. The viewing will be in the chapel beginning at 9:15 a.m. followed by the prayer service at 10:15 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. followed by the interment in the Cemetery of the Dominican Sisters of Hope on the property of Mount Saint Mary College.
