Happy Wednesday!
Orange County Community College Newburgh Business Club held their 6th Annual Etiquette Dinner on April 15, at Colden Manor at Spruce Lodge. I was again invited as a Most Important Person (MIP). The MIP responsibility is to act as a potential employer or supervisor at a dinner interview.

The facilitator for the evening was Jerry Gleason, President of Gleason Group Publishing, Author of “Business Etiquette: Receptions and Meals Bullet Point Guides, an English Professor, Westchester Community College. MIPs for the dinner were Fred Watson, President of Three Cities Management and SUNY Orange-Board of Trustees Chair, Mary Elizabeth Youngberg, CPA/Controller of Fortistar Capital, Lucinda Flemming, Chair Business Department SUNY Orange, Nilda Oyola, Vice President of Sales at DOC Brands, Inc. and myself.

SUNY Orange Business Club- Dildora Fayzullaeva, Club President, Steffani Alvarez, Club Vice-President Makayla Lemke, Club Treasurer, Jose Alvarado, Club Treasurer, advisors Josephina Vondras, CPA, Professor, Business Department and Robert Mullin, Professor Emeritus, Business Department SUNY Orange.

The evening begins with a network mocktail hour, teaching proper etiquette for greeting, meeting and introducing people at a work function. Dinner includes proper table etiquette, from how many courses were being served based on silverware, placement of silverware, glasses, bread plate and coffee cup. This was a five course meal with soup, pasta, salad, dinner and dessert. The students learned the proper way to eat each course, bread, dessert.

Gleason discussed subjects to avoid: politics, religion, finances, health and don’t attempt to tell a joke. The most expensive mistake during the dinner are cursive language and cellphone manners. If you have these habits, break them immediately.

Thank you for the invitation, I love being called a SUNY Orange MIP.
