Newburgh’s Troy Steiner, the Goldbacks’ first singles player, and Arnav Shah and Aarav Shah, second and third singles players playing as a wild-card double team, reached the singles and doubles finals during the OCIAA championships last week in Goshen.
Steiner stopped Cornwall’s Dan Leach in the semis 6-2, 7-6 before losing in the final 0-6, 1-6 to Washingtonville’s Gabe Castillo-Sanchez.
The Shah brothers beat Monroe-Woodbury’s Raj Patel and Reid Backus in the semis 6-0, 6-1 before losing to Cornwall’s Gurv Suri and Will Webber in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 1-6 in the final.
Newburgh returns to Goshen this week to play in the Section 9 championships.
