Newburgh to light Broadway Christmas Tree

Posted

The annual Tree Lighting event hosted by the City of Newburgh will take place at the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street at 5 p.m.on Friday, December 10, 2021. The event is free and open to the public and features a visit from Santa Claus. To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, those in attendance are encouraged to social distance and wear a face mask at all times during the event. This year’s tree is dedicated in memory of Maria Angelo, daughter of former City Councilwoman Regina Angelo.

For more than 30 years, the Department of Public Works has sought out, cut down, transported, and decorated the holiday tree, which is now set up on Broadway outside of City Hall. Earlier this week, the 2,000-pound Blue Spruce was brought to Lower Broadway, where it now stands more than 30 feet high. The tree was donated by Humberto and Linda Alvarez of the Town of New Windsor. The tree was transported by Michael Bigg, Jr. and Quality Towing, along with their crane operator, John Ammirati, who has been installing the tree in the City of Newburgh for more than two decades.

As always, this festive tradition would not be possible without the dedication of City of Newburgh DPW staff who go above and beyond to make this event possible each year. The City of Newburgh wishes to acknowledge the hard work of all involved, and thank everyone for their efforts. Most specifically, George Garrison and members of his department.

The Tree Lighting ceremony will be livestreamed via the City’s Facebook page for convenient viewing for those who are unable to join in-person at: facebook.com/CityofNewburgh/.
