Newburgh resident battles leukemia

Greetings from River City. Very special happy birthday greetings to our beloved Jenn, who celebrates her candles and cake day on June 8.  No daughter-in-law could be dearer than you, Jenn, who is as a beloved daughter. May God grant you every blessing now and through all the days of your life. Happy birthday, dearest Jenn.

Gift of Life Marrow Registry will host a donor recruitment drive for Rose Bradwell, at the Newburgh Illuminated festival. Rose is a 46-year-old wife and mother of three daughters who is battling leukemia and in urgent need of a blood stem cell or bone marrow transplant in order to survive.

The recruitment event will be held at Newburgh Illuminated on Saturday, June 4, from noon to 6 p.m.

Bradwell was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in December 2020. She doesn’t have a matching donor in her family, causing her to turn to the community for support. Bradwell is of Haitian descent and her best chance of finding a match is with someone of similar ancestry. Her family is working with Gift of Life to encourage the Haitian community, in particular, to join in the effort to save her life.
To join the Gift of Life registry, donors simply swab the inside of their cheeks and complete a registration questionnaire. 18 to 35-year-olds who are in good health (the ideal demographic for successful transplants) are especially urged to attend and join.

Those unable to attend in person can request a swab kit to be delivered at home by visiting giftoflife.org/Rose. To hold a donor recruitment drive, email Traci Ackerman at tackerman@giftoflife.org.

“We become what we love, and whom we love shapes what we become.” Saint Clare of Assisi. May we be wise in what we choose to love, and clear-headed in whom we choose to love. As always, I close with my prayers for God’s blessings on your heads, my dears.
