Addressing the Illuminated Festival that had been postponed, Mayor Torrance Harvey said during Monday night’s council meeting that members of the council had met with the committee members last Friday.

The committee would be submitting a permit for the festival tentatively set for July 22, 2023. The festival would begin at noon and would end at 9 p.m. that day. A phased shutdown process would begin at 6 p.m. to give ample time for cleanup and breakdown. Other compromises included in the discussions included businesses within the festival footprint that includes Broadway and Liberty St. would not have to pay fees and the festival would return up to South William St.

City Manager Todd Venning said the date would need to be reviewed if there would be another event that day and a phased shutdown would need to be reviewed as that process was not recommended initially due to department logistics previously discussed.
