New Windsor to oppose Indian Point discharge

Posted

The Town of New Windsor Board, with the assistance of Town Attorney David Zagon, will look to draft a resolution for official approval as a response to the discharge of contaminated water into the Hudson River by Holtec International as part of their decommissioning process of the Indian Point Power Plant. Town Supervisor George Meyers was presented the item as a recommendation made by Councilman Stephen Bedetti who spoke briefly about the situation at Indian Point. The Town of Newburgh Board had passed last week (March 27) a resolution of opposition to the discharge of the contaminated water.

“I spoke to Steve Neuhaus [Orange County Executive] in reference to this Indian Point. They’re [Holtec] looking to decommission it. I know there’s some concern about them putting about a million gallons of radioactive fuel pools into the Hudson River,” said Bedetti. “I figured since we’re along the Hudson River and we have a recreation area down there, I thought it’d be a good idea, for us to go on record to go against it.”
