New Windsor Community Day returns

Hello New Windsor. This Saturday August 21 is the 12th annual New Windsor Community Day! The event will be held from 4-9 p.m. at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park.

After 11 successful years we are very happy to be able to bring it back this summer after canceling last year’s event due to the pandemic. There will be great food, music, entertainment, rides, vendors and fireworks with free parking and free admission. People always ask us how to we have such an amazing event without charging people to park or for admission and the answer is because of our amazing sponsors.

Please everyone support our sponsors since they are so good to us. For a full list of vendors, and entertainment as well as the Community Day map please visit newwindsorcommunityday.com or call the Recreation Department at 845-565-7750 with any questions. We hope to see everyone there this Saturday August 21!

Town of New Windsor Town Supervisor George Meyers is pleased to announce that the last of the three town parks that were awaiting upgrades are complete with Beaver Dam, Butterhill, and Bull Road Parks all getting new equipment. New playground equipment was installed at Beaver Dam and Butterhill Parks, while new basketball hoops and repairs to the court were done at Bull Road Park, and a new basketball hoop was installed at Beaver Dam as well. So every park in New Windsor now has been updated with all new equipment in the last year and a half.

“Our elected officials have really come together and allowed us major improvements on all of our parks and now we can honestly say we have the best parks in all of Orange County and beyond! Thank you to Supervisor Meyers and all of our elected officials for all of their support with Parks and Recreation.”

Town of New Windsor Police Chief Robert Doss was part of a two man bicycle patrol Saturday with Police Officer Arcaro - going through several New Windsor neighborhoods.

“The chief advised me how well they were received by our residents. The idea was brought to me by Lt. Fred Fayo and after some discussion with the chief it was approved and put into motion. My thought was that it would be a great way for our police officers to interact with our residents and provide more police visibility in our developments,” said Supervisor Meyers. “ Police Chief Doss and his officers are pleased with the reaction they are getting from the public. My bet is the public is just as pleased.”

The Town of New Windsor Recreation Department and one of the country’s most successful soccer programs Quickstrike FC, are offering an innovative and exciting coed Recreational Soccer Program this coming Fall. The professional coaches from Quickstrike FC, along with some of their high school players, will work together to provide and mentor our recreational soccer players with a dash of soccer fundamentals mixed with playing soccer games. The program is broken down into four age groups which will allow the level of training and competition to be appropriately adjusted based on a participant’s age. This eight week program will be following all of the CDC safety guidelines to protect players and coaches. The program is for ages 2-12 and takes place on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. starting September 1 and is $65 for New Windsor residents and $75 for non-residents.
