Hello New Windsor. The Town of New Windsor had a 20th Anniversary 9-11 Memorial Service at Town Hall on September 11 at 5 p.m. and it truly was a beautiful tribute to those who lost their lives 20 years ago on that fateful day.

There were color guards that marched in from the United States Marine Corp, the New Windsor Police Department, the Vails Gate, New Windsor, and Salisbury Mills Fire Departments, and the Junior ROTC from NFA. Town Justice George Meyers Jr. was the Master of Ceremonies, New Windsor resident and retired FDNY Firefighter Mike Anson was the Guest Speaker, SGT Major Mary Kay Messenger sang “God Bless America”, the Orange County Firefighters Pipe and Drums led the procession, Town Supervisor George Meyers introduced the guest speaker, and announced the unveiling and dedication of a Memorial Bench with an inscription that reads “In Memory of September 11, 2001, Never Forget,” that has a piece of the World Trade Center Steel attached to the bench, and the playing of Amazing Grace by New Windsor Police Officer Jason Ross on the Bagpipes.

The opening prayer was led by Deacon Tony Ferriaulio and the closing prayer was by Firefighter and Chaplain from the Vails Gate Fire Department Gale Dingwell. Supervisor George Meyers said “thank you to everyone who came out today, and to all of those who contributed to putting on this Memorial. We will Never Forget that day in history and all of those who lost their lives, and are still losing their lives today with sicknesses from their recovery work at Ground Zero.”

The Memorial Bench is located at the base of the flagpole in front of Town Hall, and will be a forever memorial.
