Newburgh City Council approved on Monday, April 8 an agreement with FABHAUS Inc. for the fabrication of sculptural bicycle racks in the City of Newburgh. The cost of the fabrication will be in the amount not to exceed $48,870. FABHAUS Inc. is a local city business located on Liberty St.
According to resolution documents, back in 2021, a State and Municipal Facilities Capital Program Grant through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York in the amount of $50,000 was awarded. There was no match required from the city for this grant, which was intended to fund the fabrication of sculptural bicycle racks.
In May 2022, the city council approved an agreement with the Orange County Arts Council for the purposes of creating six awards to selected artists for the design of six bike racks for the city. The city also solicited proposals from fabricators to manufacture the bike racks and the city determined FABHAUS as the best qualified.
City Corporation Counsel Michelle Kelson provided a brief overview of the process going forward with the bike racks. “This is what we hope to be the final stage of the project. We have the designs, you [city council] approved those contracts with the designers and now we have the company that’s going to actually manufacture them and the department of public works is going to install them,” she said.
