Lowering the speed in New Windsor

Posted

The New York State Department of Transportation [NYSDOT] conducted and completed a study on 12 roads in the Town of New Windsor with requests from the town to reduce speed limits in the western end. The only recommended road to be reduced was Moores Hill Road.

The study reviewed Bull Road, Toleman Road, Jackson Avenue, Mt. Airy Road, Shaw Road, Beattie Road, Station Road, Riley Road, Bethlehem Road, Twin Arch Road and Lake Road. The NYSDOT had determined not to reduce the speed limits for these roads.

With the increase of residents moving into the western end, New Windsor Supervisor George Meyers shared to the board that he would like to see road speed limits on the western end be reduced to 30 miles per hour instead of the current 40.

With the study results received, Meyers and the board are seeking an explanation as to why only one of the roads in the western end was approved to be reduced.

The board voted to set a public hearing on the Moores Hill speed limit that will take place at the town board meeting on Wednesday, June 1 at New Windsor Town Hall.
