Healthfirst proposes new location

Health insurance provider, Healthfirst, appeared before the Newburgh Planning Board with a proposal for a new storefront location.

The proposed project is to convert the former Radio Shack storefront building into a new Healthfirst storefront location for residents. The vacant storefront is located in the Target plaza along New York State Route 17K.

Records indicated there are no proposed exterior modifications. However, the site is along a state road and will need county approval as well.

The current site is along the Orange Transit bus route which will help with residents who may not have transportation. An anticipated staff of eight employees oversees the day to day operations.

The project had originally been planned for 2020, but due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the project was put on hold. Site plans were also redone to make the storefront a touchless environment so as to prevent contamination.

Healthfirst serves as the largest not-for-profit health insurance provider in New York State according to their company website. The company has been serving those who need insurance assistance for the past 25 years.

Healthfirst will appear again before the planning board with their site plan at the board’s meeting scheduled on May 5.
