County may move DMV offices out of Woolworth Building

Posted

A recent report discussed the possible movement of Orange County offices and services such as the Department of Motor Vehicles into other buildings in the City of Newburgh or out of the city entirely.

Located in the Lower Broadway area of the city are a majority of the county services today.

Orange County Clerk Kelly Eskew and the Office of Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus have provided clarification on the possible county department and service movements.

“As of today no decisions have been made, but we continue to look at potential sites for the DMV. Any site that is considered must meet the State of New York Division of Motor Vehicles standards,” said Eskew via email. “As always we will continue to find the best way to serve the people of the City of Newburgh and Orange County.

“We have been reviewing options for buildings that the County currently owns and leases to see if they are a good fit for serving the public and at the same time help to lower costs. This is a County-wide effort and includes Newburgh, Middletown, Port Jervis, and Goshen,” said Neuhaus in an emailed statement. “In the City of Newburgh, the County has been moving some departments to the Maple Building at the foot of Broadway to consolidate staff to fewer locations and terminate high cost lease agreements.”

In the City of Newburgh today, the Department of Motor Vehicles office operates out of 128 Broadway, the Orange County Department of Health operates out of 130 Broadway and the Orange County Social Services Department and Probation Department both operate out of 141 Broadway. The Orange County Career Center operates out of 3 Washington Center on the 4th Floor.
