Imani Barnhill of New Windsor, has been named to the Plymouth State University President’s List for the Fall 2019 semester. To be named to the President’s List, a student must achieve a grade point average of 3.7 or better for the Fall 2019 semester and must have attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester. Barnhill is a English major at Plymouth State.

Assumption College of Worcester, Mass., has announced that Kayli Berardinelli, of Newburgh, Class of 2020, has been named to the College’s Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester. To be named to the prestigious list, which is announced at the completion of the fall and spring semesters, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 for a five-class, 15-credit semester.
During the month-long winter break, Kayli Berardinelli, of Newburgh, participated in a week-long service immersion trip through Assumption College’s SEND program. Berardinelli was a member of the group that traveled to Baltimore.
Through the Urban Plunge Retreat, Catholic Charities provided students with an opportunity to provide care and services to improve the lives of Marylanders in need. Throughout the week, students served meals in a soup kitchen, spent time with people at an emergency shelter, and learned to cherish the dignity in all.


The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 946 students to the President’s List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Fall 2019 semester. The SUNY Potsdam students were honored for earning top marks by President Kristin G. Esterberg.
The students included:
• Jessica Henry of New Windsor, whose major is Music Education
• Amber Knapp of Newburgh, whose major is Criminal Justice Studies
To achieve the honor of being on the President’s List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

The University at Albany and Albany Medical College (AMC) have announced the cohort of students accepted to AMC’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) program as part of a cross-institution partnership to increase the number of applicants from underrepresented backgrounds. Among them is one student from Newburgh.
Catherine Ramos is a biology major from Newburgh and a recipient of the esteemed Frederick Douglass merit-based scholarship as well as federal grants to support her education. Despite working as a student staff member within Residential Life as well as holding jobs during academic breaks, Ramos has found time to do research and volunteer in clinical settings. Ramos exudes a love of science and medicine and is particularly interested in conducting research as part of her training, saying that understanding “the basis for medicine” and specifically autoimmune diseases is a motivator for her future career.
