Mayor Torrance Harvey, in the presence of the city council, city staff and community members, swore in 17 new auxiliary police officers for the City of Newburgh Police Department during their regular meeting on Monday, March 13.

“When we took over the police department approximately two years ago, we were faced with an auxiliary police unit that had two members. In the recent past, one of them has retired,” said Police Commissioner José Gomérez. “Today we are here to present you 17 new members for the auxiliary police unit. We went from 1 to 17.”

Gomérez took the opportunity and thanked Sergeant Chris Lahar who spearheaded the program, the city council, City Manager Todd Venning and all those gathered in the council chambers.
