City council revises event sponsorship policy

Newburgh City Council approved to amend the City’s Event Sponsorship Policy on Monday, November 27. The approved amendment would go into effect on January 1, 2024 which sees the Newburgh Enlarged City School District sponsored Back to School event removed from the Recurring Public Special Events list while adding the 9/11-Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony.

Within the city policy, current events sponsored by the city include the Memorial Day Parade, the Fourth of July, Black History Parade/Juneteenth, National Night Out, the International Festival, Halloween, the Christmas Tree Lighting, the Annual Community Clean Up and the Newburgh Illuminated Festival.

Applications for sponsored events had also seen some changes with clarifications to the maximum sponsorship amount, the usage of the water truck for the event and when the applicant is seeking city council member sponsorship.
The purpose of the policy is that it provides a framework for the city to identify public special events and to establish a criteria for individuals or organizations who wish to enter into sponsorship agreements with the city for organized events.
