The rest of her childhood was spent in Downsville, NY, a small town in north western NY where her father, a welder, worked on the Pepacton Reservoir. She attended school there where she made many friends that she kept in touch with throughout her life and continued to receive the Walton Reporter. She graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy in 1962 as a member of the National Honor Society. She attended all of her class reunions and considered her classmates as family. A lifelong area resident, Carol Ann was a homemaker while raising her daughter Kim. Earlier she worked for Met Life Insurance Co., and in 1998 she became a part time Title Clerk for 19 years for the Newburgh Auto Auction, which is now Manheim, NY. Carol Ann was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church with Father Fernando Hernandez and a member of Oblates with Father Richard Macalear. In 1962 she met the love of her life, John M. Sloat, they later married and remained so for almost 60 years.

She loved New England and traveled frequently with her husband to Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, the Finger Lakes and Longwood Gardens in PA. Carol Ann was a huge fan of cats. In addition to her own four, she donated countless supplies and feed and found homes for many homeless cats. She generously volunteered her time to Newburgh Scats and fed homeless cats on a daily basis. She was a self taught piano player and enjoyed playing music of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
