The Howland Chamber Music Circle (HCMC) presents Bridget Kibbey’s Bach to Brazil on Sunday, November 15, at 4 pm at the Howland Cultural Center. The fourth concert of its 2026–2027 Chamber Series brings harp, violin, and percussion together across Baroque and Latin American traditions. Sponsored by Walden Savings Bank, the concert is followed by a reception where ticket holders can meet the artists and enjoy complimentary refreshments.
An Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, Kibbey is known for expanding the expressive world of the harp through her transcriptions and collaborations. She is joined by percussionist and composer Samuel Torres, a Latin Grammy winner, and violinist Rubén Rengel, a Sphinx Competition winner. Drawing on a wide array of traditions, the trio shows how music travels, inspires, and takes on new life.
Bach to Brazil traces connections among European Baroque music, West African rhythms, and melodies of the Caribbean coast. The music draws from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. Kibbey’s harp moves between delicate lines and driving patterns, while Rengel’s violin and Torres’s percussion add color and momentum. Works by Bach, Paquito d’Rivera, Torres, and others invite listeners to hear old and new voices together. Audiences can expect a lively, story-rich performance with moments for close listening and the delight of a dance pulse.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for students. A limited number of pay-what-you-wish tickets will be released one week before the concert. For tickets and information, visit www.howlandmusic.org. The Howland Cultural Center is at 477 Main Street in Beacon.
During their time in Beacon, the trio will also be furthering HCMC’s educational objectives by performing for 4th and 5th grade students from all four BCSD elementary schools.
Since 1993, HCMC has brought outstanding musicians to the historic Howland Cultural Center, where Hudson Valley listeners experience chamber music close to the performers.
