Town of Newburgh Police responded to a two-vehicle rollover incident Wednesday, resulting in one vehicle careening into the Whoo’s Sports Bar at 150 State Route 17K. The incident occurred at 6:30 a.m., disrupting the morning commute.

According to police reports, one vehicle veered off the roadway, crashing into the side of Whoo’s Sports Bar, causing significant damage to the establishment. The Winona Lake Engine Company swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and assist in the response efforts.

Emergency services attended to both drivers involved in the collision, transporting them to Montefiore-St Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment. Additionally, Central Hudson utility workers were summoned to the site due to concerns about a potential gas leak inside the sports bar.

Meanwhile, the other vehicle involved in the incident collided with a construction sign before coming to rest off the roadway on the southern side of 17K. Firefighters promptly deployed a hand line to address the smell of gas permeating the interior of the sports bar.

In the interest of public safety, State Route 17K was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation into the cause of the accident. Town of Newburgh Police, supported by State Police, assumed responsibility for determining the circumstances leading to the collision.
