Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson recently presented a check for $500,000 to the City of Newburgh. This allocated amount will go towards funding for roadwork in the City of Newburgh, including street paving, sidewalk replacement, and ADA-compliance work.
A press conference to announce the funds was held at the Newburgh Department of Public Works facility. Jacobson was joined at the podium by Mayor Torrance Harvey, Department of Public Works Superintendent George Garrison and Councilman Bob Sklarz of Ward 3.
Jacobson began by remarking on the need for high quality paved roads which has been a top priority for him and his office. During his remarks, a former campaign sign for Jacobson stood in the background. “When I ran for the council, I had signs that said let’s fix all the streets. When I was on the city council, I proposed that we cast at our first floor meeting a resolution directing Newburgh to have a plan to fix all the streets which the city is now implementing,” said Jacobson. “I also pushed to make sure that the city take advantage of all funding from the state when I was first elected.”
Mayor Harvey extended his thanks to the assemblyman for his support. “As he mentioned one of his early, early campaign promises was to fix the streets in the City of Newburgh in 2015 and he has done that in every way especially when he became a partner in the New York State Assembly,” said Harvey.
Jacobson, Harvey, Sklarz and Garrison joined together for a brief photo with the check to mark the occasion. Over the past few months, the city has seen several weeks of roadwork and paving in certain sections of the city, one such street being South William.
