This November, Theatre on Main Street presents the epic Rock Opera, “Green Day’s American Idiot”. A Tony Award winning Broadway musical, this production takes you back to Y2K and brings to life the story-themed album of the same name, by Green Day.
A Green Day tribute concert, and powerful story of love, loss, rage, addiction and coming of age in a post-9/11 media wrought world, “American Idiot” is an event you will not want to miss.
Theatre on Main Street, a 501(c)(3) community nonprofit theater, chose this production at this time in our suburban history as our country celebrates it’s 250 years of freedom, 25 years post-9/11, and as a tribute to a beloved band, and their recent release of the Green Day film, Nimrod. Green Day’s American Idiot presents the heart of the themes which speak to Theatre on Main Street’s ethos of bringing diverse casting, groundbreaking storytelling, and topics which are relevant to our suburban communities to two stages in Orange County this fall. Stepping out of their black box theatre and onto the stages at Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Pavilion and Aquinas Hall Theatre in Newburgh, this show will allow a broader audience to experience this story and this concert-type musical. Typically, their black box theatre has sold out of their past several years’ musical productions, as the young theatre company expands its repertoire and audience base.
Boasting a live band of professional musicians led by Music Director, Andrew Stein, which is replete with accomplished guitarists, a cellist, violinist, keyboardist and drums, the band and cast of both professional and local performers are certain to entrance and rock you with their voices, choreography and storytelling. The story follows three friends’ lives which become fraught with obstacles in love, war, addiction and real world issues on the path to fulfilling their dream. The audience is rocked along in their experience as they traverse the loss, rage, and shattered dreams of these three friends, the women they love, the friends who stick by them, and the ones that are lost along the way.
