This year’s New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Zone 9 Area All State festival will take place at Cornwall Central High School on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22. The festival features the top high school musicians in Zone 9, which includes five counties of New York State -- Green, Sullivan, Ulster, Orange and Rockland.

Anthony Ravinsky is Cornwall High School’s choral director/drama director and the district’s K-12 Music Department chair. He’s looking forward to the festival.
“CCSD is hosting this year’s festival and is excited to be bringing over 425 musicians from over 40 schools to our facilities,” he said this week. “We are lucky to have such a supportive staff and community to showcase our district and students to the entire zone.”

There are two concerts on Saturday, one at 3 p.m. and one at 5 p.m. The 3 p.m. concert is the Symphonic Orchestra & Mixed Chorus, and the 5 p.m. concert is the Treble Choir & Concert Band. Tickets can be purchased at Cornwall.booktix.com for $12 each.

CCCHS has 25 musicians participating in the festival this year.

“All of these musicians prepared a NYSSMA solo last spring and were the best in each of their instrumental and vocal rooms,” Ravinsky said. “They will have the opportunity to work with highly respected conductors and musicians at this year’s festival.”

The students will rehearse for the two concerts on Fridays from 4 – 9 p.m. and Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

Amina Thomas is O’Neill’s Band, Music Theory & Music Technology teacher for grades 9-12, and Lucas Rau is the school’s choral director. The proud teachers will accompany their students to the event, in which they have students in the Symphonic Band, Mixed Chorus, and Treble Choir concerts.
