Owner of a property along the western border of the Village of Montgomery has asked the village to annex all of his property from the adjoining Town of Montgomery.

Neil Fitzpatrick appeared before the village board last week with realtor R.J. Smith to request the annexation. Fitzpatrick said his land includes approximately 20 aces within the village, and another 80 acres outside.

Smith said there are advantages to having the entire property within the limits of a single municipality, including lower taxes and the availability of college services.

Village officials promised to consider the request.
“I’m definitely open to discussing it,” said Trustee Randi Picarello.

Village trustees agreed that they would rather see any development plans come before the village planning board, rather than that of the town.

Smith said he had a similar situation in Maybrook, when the Galaxy property was annexed into the Village of Maybrook.The move required a joint public hearing of the village and town board, followed by a public hearing of the village planning board.

“We’ll talk to the town and maybe we can have a joint public hearing,” said Mayor Steve Brescia. “Maybe in August, if not September.”
